HOLIDAY HELPER: A lot of shopping malls provide temporary child care for holiday shoppers. But what happens when you’re caring for the elderly who can’t be left alone? The South Coast Institute for Applied Gerontology, with centers in Costa Mesa and Fountain Valley, is offering an inexpensive service for Christmas shoppers: day care for their elderly, tonight and Saturday. “You really can’t take some of them shopping, for fear they’ll wander off,” explains institute director Steve Prather.
