LOS ALAMITOS : More Funds OKd for Home Improvement

Share

An additional $25,000 in federal funds will be available to low- and moderate-income families for home improvements under a contract with the county approved by the City Council this week.

The money will be added to the $50,000 already received through a community development grant for housing rehabilitation, which the county also administers.

The county contract was necessary because Los Alamitos is one of about eight or nine small cities that do not receive direct housing and community development funds from the federal government, said Elizabeth A. Binsack, director of community development.

She said the county administers and allocates the funds for the cities involved.

Binsack said the $25,000 came from the Home Investment Partnership Program (HOME), which provides loans with below-market interest rates, deferred payments, grants and rebates for qualified families.

Application forms are available at City Hall. County officials will review the loan applications for final approval, Binsack said.
