NO JOY IN TOYLAND: Things are up in the air for the touted Minneapolis-based rock trio Babes in Toyland. The group, known for its edgy, anguished female-oriented songs, broke up after a Thanksgiving eve show in its hometown, but has since decided to continue to work together even though all three members will live in different cities.

Singer-songwriter Kat Bjelland is moving to Seattle with her new husband, an Australian musician who goes by the name of Stu Spasm, and the couple plans to record an album of their own. Bassist Maureen Herman, who has been in the band for less than a year, will move back to Chicago, where she grew up.

Only drummer Lori Barbero will stay in Minnesota, where she will run her own independent record company, Spanish Fly, and develop various music projects. Says Barbero: “We’re gonna spread out and do our own thing for a while. We built up a lot of stress last year.”
