South Pasadena : Freeway Project Opposed
After federal officials announced they are pushing ahead the process for approval of the 710 Freeway connector, the City Council last week reaffirmed its opposition to the project.
On a 5-0 vote, the council readopted a resolution, initially approved in February, 1991, stating that it “vigorously opposes” all freeway connector alternatives that have been proposed by Caltrans.
The action was prompted by a letter from the Federal Highway Administration announcing a Jan. 15 deadline on public comment on the project’s environmental study.
Mayor Harry Knapp said “fundamental unresolved questions” remain about the environmental study and its proposed mitigation measures.
