Nimitz School Principal Wins Round of Applause

Share

Michael Quintanilla deserves a round of applause for his fine article. As a teacher at Nimitz since 1984, I will admit that when Lupe Simpson arrived in 1986, her style was quite an adjustment for all of us and Quintanilla’s article reflected this. However, her energy, drive and concern for excellence in education were impressive.

Acquisition of technology not only makes it possible for us to require that all research papers and essays must be done on computer, but also helps the students become proficient on IBM and Macintosh. Also, we have enough video cameras for students to make their own documentaries.

Having the school library open to students on Saturday mornings helps my students with their research projects and gives me the opportunity to meet with those who desire my individual attention or are having problems with an assignment. It is an opportunity to work with the students on a person-to-person basis rather than in the role of teacher maintaining classroom standards.
