Holt Interview: California AdNews in Newport Beach has scored a coup among communications publications: The cover story for its January/February issue is an interview with Dennis Holt, president and chief executive of Western International Media, the $1.2-billion-a-year media-buying company based in Los Angeles. Holt is also communications chairman for Rebuild L.A.

The interview tells of Holt’s early years growing up poor in South-Central L.A. and the help he received from Ozzie and Harriet Nelson. Holt performed bit parts for the couple’s 1950s TV show.

Holt also talks about founding his company in 1969 based on a concept that was new at the time: media buying.

John Good, AdNews editor and publisher, says the interview sets the record straight after an unflattering portrait of Holt published in a recent issue of the national publication AdWeek.

With the next issue of AdNews, Good converts to a bimonthly format for the magazine, which he had hoped would publish every month when he launched it in September.
