BURBANK : Speed Limit Near Train Station Cut

Share

The Burbank City Council has voted to reduce the speed limit from 40 m.p.h. to 30 m.p.h. on Front Street near the new Metrolink Station.

The 4-0 vote on Tuesday night came at the request of city traffic planners and Burbank police concerned about increased traffic near the station.

The change affects Front Street between Burbank Boulevard and Verdugo Avenue. City officials are concerned that commuters who park along the street could be endangered when they back out into traffic, though police have said there have been no accidents on the street since the Metrolink Station opened in October.

The surrounding area, which includes many warehouses and industrial areas, is being targeted by city planners for possible new commercial or high-density residential development. As that new development takes shape, the city might have to make additional traffic changes in the area, city officials said.
