NHL ROUNDUP : Turn of Events Leads to Calgary Victory

Share

A go-ahead goal that wasn’t, on a shot by Winnipeg’s Phil Housley, and a breakaway goal that was, on a shot by by Calgary’s Sergei Makarov, resulted in the Flames’ 4-3 victory over the Jets on Wednesday night at Winnipeg.

Makarov’s winner, with 1:48 to play, came after the Jets’ defensemen were caught pinching in and Calgary broke out three-on-one, with Makarov beating goalie Bob Essensa.

Minutes before that, the Jets thought they had scored the go-ahead goal. But a review of the videotape convinced officials that a shot by Housley had crossed the goal line after the net had been knocked off its moorings.
