Tide’s Stallings is Walter Camp Coach of Year
Gene Stallings of Alabama, whose undefeated team will play Miami for the national championship on New Year’s Night in the Sugar Bowl, was chosen as coach of the year by the Walter Camp Foundation on Friday.
Alabama (12-0) is 30-6 in Stallings’ three years as head coach. He took the team from 7-5 in 1990, including three consecutive losses by a total of eight points, to this year’s No. 2 ranking in the nation.
Stallings will receive his award at the annual Walter Camp Foundation banquet, Feb. 20 at Yale University.
