PHONIES ALERT: The holiday season is a boon to phony solicitors who want to separate you from your money, says Deputy Dist. Atty. Robert Gannon, head of the district attorney’s consumer unit. . . . “We’re seeing every possible scam known to mankind these days,” he says. One tactic to guard against: phone solicitors who make you think they represent a police officer group. Gannon’s advice: “Make them send you a brochure, or give a return number, to prove who they are. And always be skeptical.”
