Joseph Mysak today was named editor of American Banker, a daily newspaper covering U.S. banking and generally regarded as the authoritative banking publication.

Mysak, 35, succeeds Edwin A. Finn Jr. at the publication, which is part of American Banker-Bond Buyer, a division of Toronto-based Thomson Corp.

Finn, 38, told Bloomberg Business News that he has “resigned as editor,” a position he held for a little more than two years.

“I’ve had some inquiries from other publications,” Finn said. “I’m going to take some time to figure out what to do next.”

Earlier this year, Mysak was named to the top post at the Bond Buyer, a daily newspaper covering the municipal bond market.

He will retain the posts of editor and publisher of the Bond Buyer.

Mysak believes that Finn’s departure was prompted by “philosophical differences” with David Branch, president and chief executive of American Banker-Bond Buyer.

He didn’t elaborate, and Branch wasn’t available for comment.

Mysak, who has been with the company since January, 1981, said American Banker will expand its coverage in some areas and will add departments.
