Immigration Controversy
Regarding the immigration issue:
Ultimately, the freedom of migration should be a fundamental human right, as basic as the freedom of speech. But there are two giant obstacles we have to overcome.
The first is that if we had good government we could accommodate more immigrants, but we don’t. The immigrants may say “no pide ayuda” (ask for no help), but they still compete for jobs that are already scarce and already pay too low wages. Until we get good government, with full employment and jobs for all comers, paying decent wages, I would say we just seal the borders.
The second is that in this world that is already vastly overpopulated, with the population soaring apparently without limit, causing massive poverty, environmental degradation, and resource depletion, it does not make any sense to allow any more into this country. Should some future government demonstrate some global leadership and negotiate a world population to peak out at less than 10 billion, then we could admit our fair share of them. But until then, seal the borders.
