It didn’t take long for Tie Domi to win over the fans at Winnipeg.

Domi, acquired for his muscle, scored a goal in his first game for the Jets, and Teemu Selanne broke a third-period tie to give Winnipeg a 5-4 victory over the Boston Bruins Tuesday night at Winnipeg.

Domi, who came with Kris King from the New York Rangers on Monday for Ed Olczyk in a deal designed to give the Jets more physical prowess up front, got a one-minute ovation when he scored midway through the first period.

Domi’s goal made it 2-0 and rookie Alexei Zhamnov connected 26 seconds later. The Bruins tied the score 1:29 into the third period as Dmitri Kvartalnov connected from the slot on a three-way passing play.

But Selanne, who leads all rookies with 28 goals, put the Jets back in front at 6:19 and Zhamnov added his second of the game at 9:20 on a power play.

Joe Juneau scored with one second to play after Boston pulled goalie Reggie Lemelin.

Winnipeg center Thomas Steen got his 700th point with an assist on defenseman Teppo Numminen’s power-play goal at 4:15 of the first period.

Montreal 6, Edmonton 3--Former Oiler Vince Damphousse’s second goal of the game, a shorthanded tally 1:07 into the third period, broke a tie and sparked the Canadiens at Edmonton.

The victory kept Montreal tied with Quebec for first place in the Adams Division.

Washington 4, N.Y. Rangers 3--Michal Pivonka set up the tying goal and scored the winner in overtime as the Capitals, shackled for two periods by the Rangers, rallied for a victory at Landover, Md.

Pivonka set up Peter Bondra’s tying goal with 2:32 left in regulation, then scored the game-winner with 3:32 to play in overtime as Washington overcame a two-goal deficit in the final period to beat the Rangers for a third consecutive time.

The Capitals were held to 10 shots in the opening 40 minutes but pelted goalie John Vanbiesbrouck with 21 in the third period and three more in overtime. Washington is 6-0-1 in its last seven home games.

Quebec 4, New Jersey 1--Ron Hextall made 37 saves, 16 in the first period, as the Nordiques won at Quebec.

Owen Nolan, with his 20th goal, defensemen Steve Duchesne and Adam Foote, who scored his first goal since last Jan. 31, and Mats Sundin provided the offense for Quebec, which won despite being outshot, 38-24.

Toronto 3, N.Y. Islanders 2--Glenn Anderson’s flubbed shot trickled into the net with 51 seconds left in regulation to give the Maple Leafs the victory at Uniondale, N.Y.

Anderson broke in on right wing with Nikolai Borschevsky on a two-on-one. He faked a pass to Borschevsky and cut for the net, but fanned on his shot. However, goalie Glenn Healy was falling backward and could only watch helplessly as the puck trickled across the goal line.
