Storm’s Tail End Rains on County

Share

The tail of a powerful storm that rolled down from the Pacific Northwest earlier last week dropped more than half an inch of rain in Ventura County late Friday and early Saturday, meteorologists said.

Rainfall totals ranged from 0.63 inch recorded in Ojai to 0.28 inch in Moorpark and 0.28 inch in Thousand Oaks. The Ventura County Government Center in Ventura picked up 0.35 inch.

Police said there was no major flooding and no reports of major accidents caused by the showers, which tapered off by daybreak Saturday.

“It was the remnants of the storm that dropped a lot of rain and snow in Northern California,” said Terry Schaeffer of the National Weather Service office in Santa Paula. “It hung around for a few days, basically inactive, until it got enough strength to get to us.”

Area farmers continued to revel in their good fortune.

“The rain’s been absolutely perfect,” said Link Leavens, who owns lemon and avocado groves in the county. “We couldn’t have asked for a better way to start the New Year.”

The forecast calls for more rain by the middle of next week, Schaeffer said.
