In what will come as unpleasant news to the rest of the Smythe Division, the Calgary Flames are not slowing down.

Gary Roberts and Paul Ranheim scored two goals apiece Saturday night at Calgary as the Flames tied a club record with their eighth consecutive victory by beating the Philadelphia Flyers, 7-3.

The Flames, who haven’t lost since Dec. 8 to the Edmonton Oilers, broke a 2-2 tie with three goals in just over four minutes of the third period. Calgary, 9-0-1 in its last 10 games, leads the Smythe Division with 54 points, second-best in the NHL.

“Right now we have confidence that everybody can do the job,” Roberts said. “We have everybody contributing. On different nights we have different guys doing the job.”

Pittsburgh 5, N.Y. Rangers 2--Mario Lemieux and Joe Mullen each scored twice at Pittsburgh and Tom Barrasso recorded his 100th victory as a Penguin. Lemieux raised his NHL-leading point total to 104.

Mike Gartner scored twice for the Rangers, giving him 560 career goals and tying Guy Lafleur for seventh on the NHL’s all-time list. His total is second only to Wayne Gretzky’s 714 goals among active players.

Vancouver 2, San Jose 2--Robin Bawa scored his first goal of the year for the Sharks at 7:43 of the final period, tying the game, 2-2, at San Jose. Vancouver had taken a 2-1 lead 58 seconds into the third period on Trevor Linden’s 13th goal.

Buffalo 7, Ottawa 2--Alexander Mogilny scored his 34th, 35th and 36th goals of the season at Ottawa as the Sabres dealt the first-year Senators their ninth consecutive loss.

Mogilny has 19 goals in his last 10 games. His 36 goals are second in the NHL behind Mario Lemieux.
