AGUA DULCE : Discarded Embers Ignite House Fire

Share

Fireplace embers discarded in a plastic trash can set off a house fire in Agua Dulce on Monday night that caused about $125,000 in damage, authorities said Tuesday.

No one was injured in the blaze in the 34200 block of Agua Dulce Canyon Road, said Capt. Michael Minor of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Three families lived in the 6,000-square-foot, two-story ranch home.

Engines from fire stations in Agua Dulce and Santa Clarita responded to the fire about 7 p.m., Minor said.

Fire officials said one of the residents cleaned out a fireplace, dumped the ashes in a plastic can and set the can on a wooden deck behind the home.

The embers ignited a discarded Christmas tree and then spread to the house.

About a third of the home was damaged.
