What to Do on the Weekends

The Norris Theatre’s first in-house production has become a box office hit--even before the curtain rises.
“The Snow White Show,” a takeoff on the classic Grimm fairy tale, has sold out both of its scheduled performances--at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday. To answer the demand, the Norris, a 450-seat theater in Rolling Hills Estates, will also stage “The Snow White Show” at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Full of lively music, vivid costumes and colorful sets, the show by Mark Saltzman and Sherry Coben features the Wicked Queen, Snowy (Snow White), the Huntsman, the Magic Mirror and the Handsome Prince. Those roles will be played by three professional actors, but the seven dwarfs will be played by children picked from the audience.
The Norris expects to stage more in-house productions because professional touring shows, hit by tough economic times, are dwindling, according to Dawn Freedman, spokeswoman for the 9-year-old theater. “We’re starting with children’s shows,” Freedman said. “There’s a lot of demand for them, so it’s sort of a safe way to start out.”
