SPIRITUAL INSIGHT: The Rev. Margie Ann Nicola will speak on “Surrender and Win the War” at 11 a.m. Sunday, the first of a two-part spiritual insight series at Encino Community Church, 5955 Lindley Ave., Tarzana. The series will conclude with a sermon on Jan. 17. Child care will be provided.

BILINGUAL SERVICE: The Santa Clarita United Methodist Church, 26640 Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus, will offer a worship service in Spanish and English beginning Sunday. The new service, at 3 p.m., will complement the other Sunday services that are currently offered in English by the Rev. Preston Price at 7:45, 9 and 10:30 a.m. The bilingual service will be led by George Martzen, student at the School of Theology at Claremont, who is the church’s director of youth and evangelism.

VIDEO SERIES: “Loving, Lasting Relationships,” a video series by Gary Smalley and John Trent, will be presented at Northridge Community Church of the Nazarene beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday and continuing through Feb. 21. The series focuses on improving communication, increasing understanding and enhancing relationships. Admission is free and child care for children 4 years old and younger will be offered. The church is located at 10650 Reseda Blvd., Northridge.

JEWISH LECTURES: As part of a series on controversial contemporary Jewish concerns, Rabbi Harold Schulweis will speak Jan. 17 on the topic of “Judaism and Patrilineal Descent: Should the Child Be Considered Jewish If Only the Father Is Jewish?” Schulweis will also speak Jan. 24 on the subject of “The Jewish Ethic of Vegetarianism.” Both lectures will be at 9:45 a.m. at Valley Beth Shalom, 15739 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks. Admission is free.
