Raise Funds to Save Classes

Share

CSUN’s President Blenda J. Wilson has a plan for raising funds from alumni and friends.

Two critical questions remain:

1. How will such funds be used? We don’t need a million more computers or additional multimillion-dollar buildings. Our needs are much more basic. We are laying off teachers and canceling classes. Workloads are increasing. Will the new funds be devoted to the educational effort, or will they be used to support a bloated administrative bureaucracy? Can we hire teachers and add classes, or will Wilson hire consultants to study the logo we use on our stationery?

2. What will be the costs associated with implementing the plan? A plan having excessive costs will have little value for the students and faculty, but may serve the needs of an administration intent on maintaining power and position--giving an appearance of action and leadership but having no substance.
