Clinton and Special Interests
In response to “Pressing the Buttons: Clinton proves too vulnerable to pressure from special interests,” Opinion, Jan. 3:
While reading John Sears’ column accusing President-elect Bill Clinton of bowing to “special interests” in his appointment of a female attorney general, I found myself wondering how Sears can classify women as a special interest. Is it because for 12 years he and other architects of the Reagan Revolution tried to convince America that the special interests of white, wealthy men were the national interest? Women now constitute more than 50% of our population--I’d call that a democratic majority.
