HUNTINGTON BEACH : Coast Panel Delays Vote on Condos
California Coastal Commission officials said Tuesday that they are postponing for three months a hearing on the controversial Surfcrest North condominium project, which was scheduled for today.
In the meantime, the developers and those who appealed the proposed project will discuss ways to compromise, officials said.
Surfcrest North calls for 252 condominiums in six buildings near the intersection of Palm Avenue and Seapoint Street in the Seacliff Country Club area. The project site adjoins vacant land scheduled to become the county’s Bolsa Chica Regional Linear Park.
The environmental group Amigos de Bolsa Chica protested the project, saying it was too dense and would spoil the view of the new park. The park is on highland next to the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve.
The City Council last summer approved Surfcrest North on a 5-2 vote, despite protests by Seacliff residents and Amigos de Bolsa Chica. Council members Grace Winchell and Linda Moulton-Patterson voted against the project.
