Pizza by Smith’s: Smith’s Food King, the market that offers everything from a dry cleaner to Chinese takeout under one roof, now is pitching pizzas.

The La Habra store, part of a chain based in Salt Lake City, has its own pizzeria at which the cheese pies can be served up with any of 14 toppings in seven minutes. For customers who miss phoning the pizza shop for delivery, the store has a telephone in its video-rental department so that customers can place their orders.

“Pizza is the most popular food today. Supermarkets have not yet tapped into this promising market. It’s a trend-setting concept for a grocery chain,” said Dave Alexander, a buyer for the company.
