LOS ANGELES : Janice Hahn Announces Bid to Unseat Flores
Hoping to add her name to the family’s list of officeholders, San Pedro marketing consultant Janice K. Hahn on Wednesday formally announced her intention to run for the Los Angeles City Council seat held by Joan Milke Flores.
Hahn, 40, made her announcement at a news conference where she was flanked by her brother, James, city attorney for Los Angeles, and father, Kenneth, who recently retired as a Los Angeles county supervisor--a job he held for 40 years. Her uncle, Gordon, also held public office as a Los Angeles city councilman.
Hahn’s announcement crowds a race to challenge Flores’ reelection in the 15th Council District, which stretches from Watts to San Pedro. Other announced candidates include Los Angeles school board member Warren Furutani, attorney Diane Middleton and businessman Rudy Svornich.
