MOORPARK : City Seeks Redesign for Park Building

Share

Moorpark officials have reluctantly concluded that a gymnasium and recreation center planned for a new city park will not be built by the city’s 10th anniversary celebration this summer.

The matter was decided at a City Council meeting Wednesday during which the council decided to redesign the park building and request construction bids for the third time.

Faced with a choice of having an expensive and possibly poorly designed building ready for the celebration or a more cost-effective and useful facility later, the council decided to hold off on construction.

“We were attempting to have a building that would be open for the 10th anniversary celebration,” Councilman John Wozniak said at the meeting. “But we have discovered there is no possible way to do that and have a building that the people of Moorpark are really looking for.”

The building is planned for the Arroyo Vista Community Park, a 69-acre city park on Tierra Rejada Road near Moorpark High School that is expected to be open for the anniversary, Wozniak said.

A council subcommittee composed of Wozniak and Councilman Scott Montgomery will return to the council next month with newly designed plans to be used to request bids from contractors for the building.

Park facilities expected to be completed by the celebration include gravel parking lots, a play area, two ball fields and five soccer fields.
