The Seattle SuperSonics have established themselves as a force in the Pacific Division this season, a change of status not exactly welcomed by the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Trail Blazers attempted to demonstrate their superiority Sunday night during a 109-97 victory over the SuperSonics at Portland.

It was the Trail Blazers’ first victory in three games against Seattle this season and helped Portland pull to within a game of the second-place SuperSonics.

Six technical fouls were called, four on the SuperSonics and two on Portland’s Jerome Kersey, who was ejected with 8:57 to play after tangling with Shawn Kemp.

Clyde Drexler scored 24 points for Portland in his fourth game since returning from the injured list. Ricky Pierce and Derrick McKey each scored 20 points for the SuperSonics.
