HOLLYWOOD : Council Panel Urges Palladium Security Plan
Amid complaints about violence, a City Council committee has recommended that operations at the Hollywood Palladium be restricted. The full City Council is expected to decide next month whether to lift the ballroom’s liquor and dance licenses.
The Planning and Land Use Management Committee on Tuesday recommended that the landmark’s owners be required to submit a security plan for events there that meet police approval.
Citing an epidemic of law enforcement problems, the city’s top zoning officer moved to strip the ballroom of the licenses last year but was later overruled by the Board of Zoning Appeals.
Los Angeles police say that a dozen serious incidents have occurred at the Palladium in recent years, and that seven people have been shot or stabbed there in the last four months, including three on Christmas night.
