Carol Stogsdill, editor of the Los Angeles Times’ Orange County edition, will become the newspaper’s senior editor, Times Editor Shelby Coffey III announced Thursday.

Stogsdill, 43, will be in charge of all California coverage. Metro, Suburban, the San Fernando Valley, Ventura County and Orange County editions will report to her. A replacement in Orange County will be named later.

Stogsdill has been an assistant managing editor at The Times since 1990. She previously worked at the Arkansas Democrat, the Chicago Tribune and the Orange County Register.

“Stogsdill will be taking over responsibility for California coverage at a critical time for the state and for the paper,” Coffey said. “She brings talents as an innovator and leader that will benefit the staff and readers alike. Bringing the best journalistic skills to bear on the state’s issues and the people is a vital calling.”

She replaces Noel Greenwood, who left The Times at the end of 1992.
