AUSTIN, Tex. — Gov. Ann Richards on Friday set May 1 as the date for a special election to choose a senator to complete the term of Lloyd Bentsen, who resigned to become Treasury secretary. The term runs through 1994. Nine people have announced their candidacies, including Democrat Bob Krueger, who was appointed as interim senator.
