LAGUNA HILLS : Hearing Set Tuesday on Rail Station Site

Share

A public hearing will be held Tuesday on a proposed commuter rail station in Mission Viejo or Laguna Niguel.

The City Council will ask residents for opinions on the best location for a Metrolink commuter rail station, which would connect stations in Orange and Los Angeles counties and have a terminus at Union Station in Los Angeles.

Three sites are under consideration, with two in Mission Viejo between Cabot Road and the San Diego Freeway near Oso Parkway. The third site is at the end of Forbes Road in Laguna Niguel.

Boyle Engineering Corp., a firm hired by Laguna Niguel and Mission Viejo to evaluate the alternatives, will make a presentation at the meeting.

On Jan. 6, officials from the three cities met to discuss the rail project. At that time, Laguna Hills Mayor L. Allan Songstad Jr. said that the council was unprepared to enter into commitments with the other cities without listening to residents’ concerns.

The hearing will begin at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 25201 Paseo de Alicia.
