Ethiopian Addis Abebe broke the 10-kilometer world record at the Bob Hasan 10-kilometer race at Jakarta, running 27 minutes 40 seconds to break the 27:41 set in 1986 by Mexican Arturo Barios in Arizona. Abebe received $500,000 for breaking the world record.
Compatriot Deratu Tulu won the women’s race, finishing in 32:10.
