Amoco Corp. said its fourth-quarter earnings more than tripled from a year earlier due to lower exploration costs, higher prices for its natural gas and an overall reduction in operating costs.
The Chicago-based company said it earned $548 million, or $1.10 a share, on sales of $7.24 billion, compared to $153 million, or 31 cents, a share, on revenue of $7.18 billion a year earlier.
