WEST SAN FERNANDO VALLEY : Police Redeployed for Super Bowl
Police officers who monitor gang activities in the western San Fernando Valley have been assigned to normal patrol duties during Super Bowl Week as part of a citywide effort to put more police on the street, a spokesman for Deputy Chief Mark A. Kroeker said.
Lt. Joseph Garcia said last week that the four to six officers assigned to the West Valley’s anti-gang CRASH (Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums) program are performing ordinary patrol duty for the week preceding Sunday’s football championship game in Pasadena.
Garcia said officers from other police divisions around Los Angeles also have been assigned to street duties because of the influx of out-of-town fans.
After the game, the West Valley CRASH officers will return to patrolling areas popular with gang members and gathering intelligence on gangs, Garcia said.
