SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

Last summer’s grand finale for the city’s summer concert program might not have been so grand without a $15,000 foundation grant toward furthering the cultural arts in the city. This year, the city received $10,000 toward the cause from the Leo Freedman Foundation.

John Dade, chairman of the city’s Fine Arts Commission, accepted the grant at last week’s City Council meeting.

“It means quite a bit,” Dade said. “Without that funding, we couldn’t put on the major concert series we have.”

The grant money is used to support the free eight-week outdoor concert series, which runs from mid-July to late August.

Dade said that last year, the city received $15,000 from the foundation. Because of that grant, the city was able to put on the final concert, which featured the Cypress Pops Orchestra and attracted about 3,000 people, he said.

The grant money helps to pay for groups to come perform in the city.
