Dana Point : Workshops to Focus on City General Plan

Share

The city’s General Plan will be the subject of four community workshops arranged by city officials in the next few months.

Details about the General Plan process, which provides a blueprint for how the city will be developed, will be outlined in a citywide newsletter that will be sent to residents this week.

In the newsletter, citizens can get information about the major goals for Dana Point, and they may use the enclosed survey to provide information to city officials.

The questionnaire asks citizens what they know about the General Plan, how they feel about the direction the city is heading with regard to tourism, development, business and other issues.

One section allows residents to request that a city planner contact their household to explain or answer questions about the General Plan, which is a state-required document that covers 20 years of future growth.

The four workshops in February and March are sponsored by the Planning Commission and the City Council.

They will be held at City Hall, 33282 Street of the Golden Lantern, Suite 210.

“The ultimate goal of the Planning Commission workshops is to identify any specific General Plan changes citizens would like,” said Ed Knight, director of community development.

The first meeting will be Feb. 20 at 10 a.m., and officials will use it as an informational session to explain the nature of the General Plan.

On March 3 at 6 p.m., the Planning Commission wants to develop a list of questions and issues that are important to citizens.

At the March 17 meeting at 6 p.m., city staff will respond to the concerns of residents expressed in the previous workshop.

At the final session on March 31 at 6 p.m., staff will compile information gathered at the previous meetings, and the Planning Commission will send a report on the workshops to the City Council.

A public hearing will be held by the council on April 13 to discuss potential changes to the General Plan.
