Clinton Doctor’s Firing Tied to Allergy Shot

Dr. Burton Lee, who was President Bush’s personal physician and was to continue temporarily under President Clinton, was fired after refusing to give Clinton an allergy shot, The Washington Times reported today.

“I was supposed to give him an allergy desensitization shot on Monday, but I didn’t have enough information to go ahead with it,” the newspaper quoted Lee as saying as he left the White House Wednesday.

Lee told the newspaper that he did not want to give the injection without full medical information, which was received only Wednesday.

“It’s absolutely false that Dr. Lee was released for the reasons he states,” White House Press Secretary Dee Dee Myers told the paper. “It is simply within the President’s prerogative to choose his own personal physician, and he is going to do that.”
