Malibu : Bridge on PCH to Be Rebuilt

Share

The California Transportation Commission has approved an $8.7-million project to rebuild the Malibu Creek Bridge on Pacific Coast Highway, Caltrans officials said.

Plans call for the 522-foot-long span to be widened to allow for a median and a six-foot-wide sidewalk on each side, Caltrans spokesman Russell Snyder said.

Most of the work will be done in phases from June to November until its planned completion in 1996. The work is to begin this summer. Officials have said all lanes of PCH will remain open during construction except for occasional closures during off-peak hours.

The bridge, built in the 1920s, has occasionally been washed out by rains.
