Human Rights Forum to Discuss Bosnia

Amnesty International USA is co-sponsoring a community forum to discuss human rights in Bosnia-Herzegovina at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Writers Guild Theatre, 135 S. Doheny Drive, Beverly Hills.

Photographer Martin Sugarman, who has documented the war, will be among the speakers. Other sponsors include Southwest Medical Teams, Women’s Commission for Refugee Women and Children, and the Writer’s Guild.

Before the forum, members of the U.N. High Commission for Refugees who recently returned from the region will answer questions. Participants include actor Mike Farrell, “Sneakers” Director Phil Robinson and Barbara Francis, the commission’s public information director.

The agenda will focus on “rape camps,” ethnic strife, torture of detainees and prosecution of war crimes.

UCLA Prof. A. F. Fogelquist will present a history of conflict in the region. Bosnian refugees will share their stories, and video footage from the former Yugoslavia will be shown. Tickets are $5 at the door. For information, call Lisa Mahoney at (818) 783-0563.
