Rob DiMaio scored two goals and Mark Bureau had four assists Monday night at Daly City as the Tampa Bay Lightning handed the San Jose Sharks a franchise-record 14th consecutive loss, 5-4.

The Lightning, 9-18-2 away from home, equaled the NHL record for road victories by an expansion team, matching the nine wins by the 1967-68 St. Louis Blues and 1972-73 Atlanta Flames.

After Johan Garpenlov narrowed Tampa Bay’s lead to one with his ninth goal 1:10 into the third period, Chris Kontos scored what proved to be the game-winner with his 26th on a shot from the point at the 6:53 mark.

St. Louis 1, Toronto 1--Brendan Shanahan and Nikolai Borchevsky traded first-period goals for the tie at St. Louis.

The Maple Leafs stayed four points ahead of the Blues in the race for the fourth playoff spot in the Norris Division and remained unbeaten against the Blues at 3-0-3.

The Maple Leafs have allowed only six goals in their last six games and three or fewer in 34 of their 52 games. Toronto is 3-1-1 in its last five games.

“The Blues are playing well, but we’re playing well, too,” said Maple Leaf Coach Pat Burns, whose team is 3-1-1 in the last five games. “We just have to go out and look after our own.”

Shanahan gave the Blues the lead with a power-play goal at 11:57 of the first period.

Borchevsky tied it at 16:34 on a rebound shot.

Winnipeg 4, Ottawa 4--Laurie Boschman scored on a penalty shot in the third period as the Ottawa Senators rallied from a three-goal deficit for the tie at Ottawa.

“We haven’t had a lot of points (despite) all the hard work we’ve put into games, so it’s nice to get a point,” Boschman said.

The Senators, 1-9-1 in their last 11 games, were behind 3-0 late in the second period, but fought back for the tie and only the 14th point of their first season (5-46-4).

N.Y. Rangers 4, N.Y. Islanders 4--Pierre Turgeon scored twice, including the tying goal in the second period, and had two assists at Uniondale, N.Y., as the Islanders extended the Rangers futility at the Nassau Coliseum.

The Rangers have not won on the Islanders’ home ice since a 4-1 victory on Oct. 28, 1989, a stretch of 13 games. The tie also kept the third-place Rangers two points ahead of their Patrick Division rivals.

Mark Fitzpatrick made 20 saves for the Islanders, extending his personal unbeaten streak to seven (5-0-2).

Mike Gartner scored two goals for the Rangers.

Minnesota 5, Vancouver 4--The North Stars led, 5-1, after two periods then withstood a rally by the Canucks for the victory at Vancouver.

Ulf Dahlen and Mike Modano each scored two goals for the North Stars. James Black also scored for Minnesota.
