2nd Man Dies of Injuries in Car Club Race Crash

A Riverside man who was critically injured in a crash during a car club race in Irvine on Sunday has died from head injuries.

Eric Karl Lindquist, 37, died at 2 p.m. Monday at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center, less than 24 hours after his racing partner, John Hartley Clark, 52, died at the same hospital, said a spokesman for the Orange County coroner’s office.

The two men were participating in a timed, two-man slalom race sanctioned by the Sports Car Club of America in the parking lot of Lion Country Center when the accident occurred.

Police said Clark, who was driving a Lotus Elan sports car, failed to make a turn on the course and struck a tree. Lindquist was riding in the passenger seat. Both men, who were wearing seat belts and helmets, suffered head injuries and were airlifted to the hospital, police said.

Clark, a resident of Rolling Hills Estates, died at 12:15 a.m. Monday after undergoing surgery.
