GRIFFITH PARK : Panel Splits on Horse Center Terms

Share

After months of deliberation, a Los Angeles City Council panel Monday failed to reach a consensus on how much a group of investors ought to pay to run the Griffith Park equestrian center. By a 1-1 vote, the Arts, Health and Humanities Committee split over the terms of a 30-year concession agreement with Los Angeles Equestrian Center Inc.

Councilman Joel Wachs voted to support an agreement similar to one already in effect with the corporation, which currently has the concession to operate the center. Councilman Mike Hernandez backed a contract that would reduce the payments the concessionaire would make to the city.

The investors have claimed that they cannot be expected to undertake the large capital investments needed to update the center because the current concession agreement does not allow them to make enough in return.
