MONROVIA : 400 Sign Up for Tests to Find Donor for Teen-Ager
More than 400 people have signed up for blood tests to find a matching bone marrow donor for 16-year-old Jose Villegas, Monrovia police said Tuesday.
The Duarte youth, a volunteer with the Monrovia Police Explorer Scouts, is hospitalized with leukemia and needs a bone marrow transplant to survive.
Police launched a search Monday for possible donors, who will be tested on Sunday at the Monrovia Community Center, 119 W. Palm Ave. They are also seeking contributions to pay for the $45 tests. So far, $6,000 has been raised. For information call (818) 301-9061 or (818) 303-1081.
