COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Michigan Rebounds Past Michigan State

After losing to Iowa on Saturday, Michigan came back with vengeance against Michigan State on Tuesday night.

Behind Chris Webber’s 22 points and 11 rebounds, Michigan extended Michigan State’s home losing streak to four games with a 73-69 victory at East Lansing, Mich.

The seventh-ranked Wolverines, 17-3 overall and 6-2 the Big Ten, never trailed, but they also never led by more than 10 against the 25th-ranked Spartans (11-6, 3-5).

No. 12 Florida State 92, Jacksonville 77--Doug Edwards scored 23 points and Bob Sura led a 17-3 run early in the second half as the Seminoles overcame a slow start at Jacksonville.

Florida State, playing without injured point guard Charlie Ward, fell behind, 22-7, before finally getting on track. Sura scored the last four points of the first half and the first eight of the second-half run that carried Florida State (15-6) from a two-point halftime deficit to a 58-46 lead.

No. 14 Seton Hall 90, Providence 71--Terry Dehere has a history of playing well against Providence, and he did so again with a season-high 29 points in a Big East game at East Rutherford, N.J.

Seton Hall (16-5, 6-3) ended a three-game losing streak and won its 11th consecutive conference home game. Providence (9-8, 2-7) suffered its 20th loss in 23 conference road games.

No. 17 Arkansas 91, Louisiana State 79--Robert Shepherd made a steal and a layup to key a 10-2 run for the Razorbacks in a Southeastern Conference game at Baton Rouge, La.

Scotty Thurman scored 22 points and Corliss Williamson 18, including 14 apiece in the second half, for the Razorbacks (14-4, 5-3). Jamie Brandon led LSU (14-6, 4-4) with 23 points.

No. 20 Marquette 69, South Florida 54--Tony Miller scored 16 points and made all six of his shots from the field as the Warriors (16-2) won a nonconference game at South Florida (4-12).

OTHER GAMES

Lawrence Moten scored 18 points to lead Syracuse (13-5, 6-5) to a 60-57 Big East victory at Connecticut (9-7, 4-6). . . . Curt Smith scored a career-high 38 points, including nine in the second overtime, to give Drake (5-3, 9-7) a 96-88 Missouri Valley Conference victory over Tulsa (5-4, 10-10), at Des Moines, Iowa. . . . Dirk Surles scored 12 of his 20 points in overtime as George Washington (13-4, 3-3) rallied to beat Rutgers (10-9, 3-4), 105-100, in double overtime in a Atlantic Ten Conference game at Piscataway, N.J.
