Dominique Wilkins got his wish.

“I’m glad it’s over, and I’m glad to get it done here,” Wilkins said Tuesday night after becoming the Atlanta Hawks’ career scoring leader with 34 points in a 118-109 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics at Atlanta.

“I’d hate to have done it in Miami,” Wilkins added, referring to the site of the Hawks’ next game. “It wouldn’t have been nearly as much fun.”

Wilkins increased his career total to 20,885 points, breaking the franchise record of 20,880 set by Bob Pettit from 1954-65 when the Hawks were in St. Louis.

Wilkins broke the record on a baseline basket with 6:20 remaining. Wilkins moved ahead of Pettit into 15th place on the all-time NBA scoring list.

“I’ve never met Bob Pettit, but I’ve seen his jersey hanging up there in the rafters here for years,” Wilkins said. “He was a player and he could do it all--score, rebound, pass and play defense.”

Mookie Blaylock added 19 points and 11 assists and Kevin Willis had 15 points and 16 rebounds as Atlanta won its third consecutive game and 10th of 14.

Shawn Kemp had a career-high 35 points and 15 rebounds for the SuperSonics, who lost for the fourth time in five games. The Hawks have beaten the SuperSonics 10 of the last 11 meetings in the Omni.

Cleveland 100, Golden State 90--Gerald Wilkins scored a season-high 28 points as the Cavaliers won their fourth consecutive home game and handed the Warriors their seventh road loss in row.

Golden State’s Chris Mullin scored 17 points, reaching double figures for the 300th consecutive regular-season game. Only Michael Jordan, with 542, has a longer current streak. Sarunas Marciulionis led the Warriors with 20 points.
