Calgary ended Washington’s 13-game home unbeaten streak and extended its own modest win streak to three with a 6-4 victory Tuesday at Landover, Md.

Robert Reichel scored on a breakaway goal with 1:20 to play to break a tie and Paul Ranheim added an empty-net goal with seven seconds left.

Reichel had two goals and an assist, and goalie Mike Vernon had 38 saves for the Flames.

The Flames’ special teams produced two goals in a 58-second span of the first period for a 2-0 lead. Ranheim got a shorthanded score at 13:43, putting a backhander into the open net.

Reichel then put in the rebound of a shot by Gary Roberts with Calgary enjoying the man advantage.

Vernon had 17 saves in the first period, but the Capitals got four goals on 14 second-period shots to make it 4-4.

Edmonton 4, Boston 3--Shayne Corson, Kelly Buckberger, Sjhon Podein and Petr Klima scored for the Oilers, who took advantage of poor defense and goaltending by the Bruins at Boston.

The Bruins outshot Edmonton, 48-24, and dominated play in the second and third periods, but could not catch the Oilers after falling behind, 4-1.
