San Jose State Coach Joins Bears
San Jose State is looking for a new head football coach after Ron Turner’s decision to become the Chicago Bears’ offensive coordinator.
“It was an opportunity I felt does not come around very often, and I had to take that challenge,” Turner said of the offer from new Bear Coach Dave Wannstedt.
Turner, 39, was at San Jose one season, leading them to a 7-4 record and second place in the Big West Conference. San Jose ranked 15th nationally in scoring, averaging 30 points a game.
Turner is the brother of Norv Turner, the Dallas Cowboys’ offensive coordinator.
The Cowboys announced line coach Butch Davis would become defensive coordinator, replacing Wannstedt. Also in place of Wannstedt, Norv Turner also became assistant head coach.
