The one-two punch of Jimmy Williamson and Kyle McIntosh were all South Torrance High needed Wednesday night against North Torrance.

The players combined for 47 points to lead South to a 74-62 Pioneer League victory at North.

Williamson finished with a season-high 34 points as South (20-2) tied a school record for victories in a season.

The 5-foot-10 senior guard also had 10 assists and four steals as the Spartans improved to 7-0 in league play.

McIntosh, a 6-8 center who had 23 points in South’s 52-49 victory over North earlier this season, had 13 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks. He also helped out in another area.

“They were concentrating so much on me, they left Jimmy open,” McIntosh said. “You can’t do that. That was their big mistake.”

And it showed.

Williamson, who made five three-point baskets, scored seven of South’s first 11 points of the fourth quarter to help the Spartans build a 62-51 lead with three minutes 30 seconds to play.

“They were sagging on Kyle and it opened me up for shots,” Williamson said. “It was a battle all the way, but I was pretty confident we would win.”

Either Williamson or McIntosh have led South in scoring every game this season.

North (11-10, 5-2) scored six consecutive points and closed to 62-57 with 2:41 to play on a basket by Ryan Tamura.

But Williamson made a 15-foot jump shot and two free throws with 1:34 left to increase the lead to 66-57 with 1:34 remaining.

Derek Brown made four throws in a row and the Spartans converted 10 of 12 free throws in the last two minutes to earn their eighth consecutive victory.

Jimmy Miller had 21 points and Tamura, Kevin Okada and Frank Ramirez scored 11 each for North.

South led, 33-25, at halftime, holding North scoreless for nearly three minutes to stretch a two-point second-quarter lead to 33-23 on a free throw by McIntosh with 40 seconds left before halftime.
