Tires Flattened After Hitting Freeway Hole

Share

At least three cars suffered flat tires Friday afternoon after a hole developed in two lanes of the eastbound Garden Grove Freeway.

“We had settling under the freeway which led to the sinking of a hole,” California Highway Patrol Officer Bill Wedderburn said.

“The concrete gave way, resulting in what was similar to a large pothole. It’s all tied into the rains and the construction we’ve had in that area.”

After several drivers called in around noon to complain about the hole, which was near the Santa Ana Freeway interchange, the CHP closed the No. 1 and 2 lanes. This caused traffic to back up for about four miles for two hours.

Wedderburn did not know how large the hole was but said crews covered it up and the two lanes were reopened by 2 p.m.
