Spike Lee has signed on to direct the video for a new Bruce Hornsby song, “Talk of the Town,” which will be the second single from Hornsby’s album “Harbor Lights.” The album is due in April. . . .

Parrish Smith of EPMD has signed a production and label deal with RCA. . . . M.C. Ren’s “May Day on the Front Line” will be the first single from the soundtrack for the rap comedy film “CB4.” His N.W.A. mate Eazy-E and former N.W.A. member Ice Cube are among the many with cameos in the film. . . . Meanwhile, Eazy-E’s long-awaited “Temporary Insanity” album is finally finished, but no release date has been set. . . .

The Smithereens are considering two punny titles for the group’s next album: “From Camelot to Smithereens” (taken from a line in the movie “JFK”) and “Cosa Nostradamus.” The latter relates to a song on the album, “John Gotti,” about the organized-crime boss. Also on the album is the timely “Sick of Seattle.” . . .

Prince’s next video, for the song “Blue Light,” will include a parade of celebs entering his new Glam Slam club in L.A., filmed last week by Tony M. of Prince’s New Power Generation band. Among the stars: Spike Lee, Jade, Keith Washington, Tevin Campbell and Vikings running back Roger Craig. . . .

Opting for a rap-out instead of a shootout, members of the Bloods and the Crips, the notorious L.A. gangs, have been meeting in the recording studio to work together on a rap album, “Bangin’ on Wax.” The collection is due in early March on L.A.-based Quality Records, with a portion of the proceeds ticketed for organizations in the black community. . . .

Pop/R&B; singer Regina Belle, seeking a bigger street-level audience, is paired with rapper Kool Moe Dee on “Tango in Paris,” a cut from her upcoming album. . . . The second album from psychedelic rappers PM Dawn, who had a massive hit with the “I’d Die Without You” single from the “Boomerang” soundtrack, is scheduled for March. . . .

Alan Smithee hasn’t been taking any bows for directing Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” video because there is no Alan Smithee. That’s the name traditionally used when the real writer or director won’t allow his/her name to be used. Miffed that 10 seconds of his/her final cut was changed, the director refused to take credit for it. . . .

The release date for that long-awaited Aerosmith album is April 13. . . .

We goofed: The song “The Crying Game”--which is helping Boy George attempt a revival via the Pet Shop Boys-produced version used in that film--was written by Geoff Stephens. The original version, sung by British popster Dave Berry, was a No. 5 hit in England in 1965.
