COUNTYWIDE : Volunteers Sought for Seniors Group

Share

County officials are seeking five senior citizens to fill seats on the Senior Citizens Advisory Council.

Members of the 40-member volunteer council, which serves as a liaison between the County Board of Supervisors and the county’s 306,000 seniors, are usually appointed by three groups. They are the county supervisors, the California League of Cities and the seniors advisory council, which names some of its own members.

Supervisor Roger R. Stanton will select someone to fill one of the available seats, and the league will appoint the other four. The only area that doesn’t have a position available is District 2, represented by Supervisor Harriett M. Wieder, which covers Costa Mesa, Cypress, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Los Alamitos, Seal Beach, Stanton and Anaheim.

The two-year terms are available to residents of the other four supervisorial districts. The District 5 seat, which covers most of South County, is for an alternate member and expires next December.

The council, which meets monthly, advises supervisors and the county Area Agency on Aging on issues of the elderly. The group also helps maintain the Agency on Aging’s area plan, which is a four-year blueprint on how to administer services to senior citizens.

To apply, contact a local City Hall or call the League of Cities office at (714) 972-0077.
