BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Wyatt’s Basket Gives Kennedy Overtime Win

Share

Joe Wyatt of Kennedy High missed a three-point shot with 11 seconds to play in overtime Wednesday, but he got a second chance when the rebound went long off the back rim into the hands of teammate Nakia Gorden.

Gorden immediately whipped the ball back to Wyatt, who drilled his next three-point attempt with one second left to give Kennedy a 50-47 victory over host Taft in a West Valley League game. “I knew it was going to go in,” Wyatt said of his last-second jump shot that improved Kennedy’s record to 7-14, 2-5 in league play.

Wyatt, who finished with a game-high 31 points, scored 13 of the Cougars’ final 15 points, including all five in overtime. However, it was a layup by Keith Brydon with three seconds left in regulation that forced overtime.
